The Inns of Court College of Advocacy, ICCA (formerly the ATC) has just delivered a round of training to Police Prosecutors in Belize, Central America. These serving Police Officers are required to present cases before the Magistrates' Court. Unlike the position in the UK, these could include serious cases which might carry up to 10 years imprisonment; i.e. all cases save for murder and rape.
In addition, Belize's Police Prosecutors are required to deal with committal proceedings in the latter more serious cases and are frequently faced with unrepresented Defendants. The requirement for Advocacy training was thus both obvious and urgent. Follow this link to review the visit's report.
