In March 2015 Sarah Clarke, Mrs Justice Maura McGowan, Iain Morley QC and Amber Darr ASC travelled to Islamabad, Pakistan to undertake the third advocacy training course for prosecutors from the Pakistan Prosecutions Department.
The ATC representatives delivered a Training the Trainer course and were assisted by Amjad Rafique and Umar Khan, who have also supported the previous two courses and whose enthusiasm to ensure that the advocacy skills training is developed in future years has proved fundamental.
A number of the advocates who attended had been trained on the previous courses. The ATC trainers reported that it was gratifying to see how enthusiastic they were and also have much they had improved as advocates.
The course was a great success and the ATC are keen to continue to provide support in the future. It was also important in terms of sustainability, that we have now trained a number of Prosecutors as advocacy trainers themselves with the intention that the PPD will now be in a position to run its own advocacy training courses for new joiners.
