The Work We Do

Who We Are

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) was established by the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC). The ICCA works with barristers, judges and others drawn from the Inns, the Circuits, the Bar Council of England and Wales, Specialist Bar Associations and other representative organisations. The ICCA is made up of a specialist academic team and a professional operations team, based at 33 Chancery Lane.

We are committed to academic and professional excellence for the Bar. Our main functions are to provide education, leadership, guidance and coordination in relation to the pursuit of excellence in advocacy and professional ethics.

Our work with the Inns and Circuits

The ICCA designs and delivers bespoke advocacy training courses and guidance for the practising Bar. Examples of this include project such as Advocacy and the Vulnerable, Advocacy for Children in Conflict with the Law, Expert Evidence and the Effective Use of Interpreters.

We set out to share best practice and work on joint ventures such as a portable method of case analysis teaching, ethics vignettes, conferences held on areas of topical interest and concern and training for Facilitators and Pupil Supervisors.

The ICCA Board of Governors considers project briefs from its academic team, members of the Bar or the Judiciary and makes decisions depending on the scope of the work and the cost.

On this website you can find more information about our post-qualification training, or please contact us at info@icca.ac.uk.

The ICCA Bar Course

The ICCA Bar Course provides an innovative and highly successful approach to training the barristers of the future. The course is divided into two parts, one online and the other taught face-to-face within the precincts of the Inns of Court.
