The Work We Do

Who We Are

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) was established by the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC). The ICCA works with barristers, judges and others drawn from the Inns, the Circuits, the Bar Council of England and Wales, Specialist Bar Associations and other representative organisations. The ICCA is made up of a specialist academic team and a professional operations team, based at 14 South Square.

We are committed to academic and professional excellence for the Bar. Our main functions are to provide education, leadership, guidance and coordination in relation to the pursuit of excellence in advocacy and professional ethics.

Our work with the Inns and Circuits

Funded by the Inns, the ICCA designs and delivers bespoke advocacy training courses and guidance for the practising Bar. Examples of this include project such as Advocacy for Vulnerable People and ChildrenAdvocacy for Children in Conflict with the LawTrauma-informed Advocacy, Expert Evidence and the Effective Use of Interpreters.

We set out to share best practice and work on joint ventures and arrange conferences on areas of interest and concern.

The ICCA Board of Governors considers project briefs from its academic team, members of the Bar or the Judiciary and makes decisions depending on the scope of the work and the cost.

On this website you can find more information about our post-qualification training, or please contact us at info@icca.ac.uk.

Our Financial Statements

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) was established by the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC) with the purpose of promoting excellence in the administration and practice of the law. COIC, a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (Charity No. 1155640), serves as the parent organisation of the ICCA.

As an Authorised Education and Training Organisation by the Bar Standards Board, the ICCA delivers a Bar Course for aspiring barristers as well as a range of Post-Qualification Training for practising barristers and other legal professionals.

COIC also oversees the Bar Tribunals and Adjudication Service (BTAS), which is responsible for upholding professional standards and conduct within the Bar. ICCA financial statements are included within COIC’s Trustee Annual Reports, which can be accessed here.
